86° WALTER HALİT

86° WALTER HALİT is a luminous artwork on the roof of the Regional Council building (Regierungspräsidium) in Kassel. It commemorates Halit Yozgat and Dr Walter Lübcke, who were murdered in Kassel. Two large light surfaces bearing the names HALİT and WALTER stand at an angle of 86 degrees to each other – visible far across the city.

The artwork was financed entirely by donations and realised by the association Bewegungsperspektiven für Licht, Kunst und Kultur (BWP). Artistic direction: Natascha Sadr Haghighian.

Our role

Makom was responsible for the technical concept and execution of light and textile, and designed and detailed the sculpture together with Natascha Sadr Haghighian and Max Weydringer: from the LED panels in the workshop, light tests and printed textile skins to the crane installation on the roof.

We worked closely with Günter Schleiff (HHS Planer und Architekten), who was responsible for architecture and project lead, and with BFI under Axel Bürger, who built the steel structure and carried out the metalwork of the sculpture.
