A story of people, ideas and innovation
MAKOM was never just a company. MAKOM was and is a worldwide network of people, ideas, creativity and the courage to try something new.
It all began when I encountered one of the first prototypes of a digital large-format printer. Back then, it was hard to imagine what this new technology would make possible. For me it was the start of a journey that went far beyond printing.
Over the decades, many people from different countries, cultures and disciplines have accompanied, shaped and influenced MAKOM. Artists, designers, engineers, technicians, developers and creative minds who developed ideas with me, pushed technical boundaries and realised extraordinary projects all over the world.
It was never the achievement of one person. It was the interplay of people who were curious, who experimented, who sometimes failed – and always found new solutions.
We didn’t just apply technologies, we expanded what they could do. We developed processes, rethought materials and realised projects for which there were no ready-made solutions.
First experiments became innovations. Ideas became projects. Encounters grew into collaborations, friendships and an international network that has grown over many years.
It was never only about size, technology or spectacular images. It was always about one question:
What becomes possible when creativity, knowledge and technology meet?
The answer rarely came at a desk. It came from exchange – in workshops, on construction sites, in studios, in conversations and sometimes by chance. Often where different experiences and ways of thinking came together.
Not everything worked the first time. But it was precisely the challenges, the detours and the seemingly impossible tasks that moved us forward. We learned from each other, shared knowledge and together created possibilities that did not exist before.
Today this experience lives on in MAKOM 3.0.
Not as a mere continuation of a company history, but as knowledge grown from decades of international collaboration, technical innovation and creative development.
This knowledge is more than technical experience. It is an understanding of how ideas emerge, how people come together and how a vision can become reality.
We know the paths, the challenges and the people. We know that extraordinary projects are not created by technology alone, but by trust, experience, curiosity and collaboration.
The network
To this day we work with the very best.
The network has remained – and it is still at work. For every project we bring the specialists to the table who are the best at exactly that: print and fabrication, light and textile, steel and metalwork, structural engineering and installation, sound, technology and design. Many of them have been with us for decades.
MAKOM 3.0 is therefore not just a look back at what we have created. Above all, it is the opportunity to think further with this knowledge, to create new connections and to realise new ideas.
What moved us from the very beginning has remained: curiosity, the joy of experimenting and the willingness to imagine the seemingly impossible – and make it possible.
Because in the end it was never just machines, materials or technologies.
It was always the people.
