    Makom Cube & Bag

Makom Cube and Makom Bag are our own special advertising formats for events and outdoor advertising: large cubes and oversized shopping bags of printed fabric on a lightweight structure. Quick to set up, easy to transport and re-covered again and again – from city festivals to Christmas markets.

And at night they glow: a solar panel charges a battery during the day, which powers the lighting inside in the evening – no power connection needed.

    • Standard outdoor size: 2 × 3 m, 1 m deep – available in any size on request, like our XXL bags for H&M
    • Printed fabric cover, exchangeable for every new campaign
    • Lightweight structure, quick assembly and dismantling
    • Glows self-sufficiently with solar panel and battery
    • For events, city marketing, markets, trade fairs and outdoor advertising

  • 86° WALTER HALİT

    86° WALTER HALİT

86° WALTER HALİT is a luminous artwork on the roof of the Regional Council building (Regierungspräsidium) in Kassel. It commemorates Halit Yozgat and Dr Walter Lübcke, who were murdered in Kassel. Two large light surfaces bearing the names HALİT and WALTER stand at an angle of 86 degrees to each other – visible far across the city.

The artwork was financed entirely by donations and realised by the association Bewegungsperspektiven für Licht, Kunst und Kultur (BWP). Artistic direction: Natascha Sadr Haghighian.

    Our role

Makom was responsible for the technical concept and execution of light and textile, and designed and detailed the sculpture together with Natascha Sadr Haghighian and Max Weydringer: from the LED panels in the workshop, light tests and printed textile skins to the crane installation on the roof.

We worked closely with Günter Schleiff (HHS Planer und Architekten), who was responsible for architecture and project lead, and with BFI under Axel Bürger, who built the steel structure and carried out the metalwork of the sculpture.

  • 7000 Palms – Cosima von Bonin

7000 Palms – Cosima von Bonin

For the 70th anniversary of documenta, the Fridericianum presented Cosima von Bonin’s artistic intervention “7000 Palmen” (7000 palms): bunting whose flags are not triangular but shaped like palm trees. From 7 June to 28 September 2025, a temporary palm forest grew above the streets of Kassel’s city centre – a humorous homage to Joseph Beuys’ “7000 Oaks” and to Daniel Buren’s bunting at documenta 7.

Laid end to end, 7,000 palms make roughly 2.94 kilometres of bunting.

    Our role

Makom advised on production and materials – from the choice of fabric and samples to the manufacture of the garlands – and carried out the installation in Kassel’s city centre, together with Linke Werbetechnik, working from aerial platforms high above the pedestrian streets.

    • Artist: Cosima von Bonin
    • Presented by: Fridericianum, Kassel
    • Production consulting, materials and city-centre installation: Makom, MiKi Lazar
    • Installation: Linke Werbetechnik

  • Light curtain Weinberg

    Light curtain Weinberg

For the light art exhibition LichteWege on the Weinberg terraces in Kassel, we developed a projection curtain that encloses the round pavilion on the Weinberg. By day a bright, moving fabric curtain – by night a curved screen for projections, visible far across the city.

The glowing pavilion has become the image of LichteWege.

    Our role

Makom conceived, produced and installed the curtain on site – in collaboration with Ton Direkt, who realised the projection.

    • Concept, production and installation of the curtain: Makom, MiKi Lazar
    • Projection: Ton Direkt
    • Location: Weinberg terraces, Kassel

  • Klangkirche Korbach

    Klangkirche Korbach

At Hessentag 2018 in Korbach, the Protestant Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck invited people to rediscover listening: the Kilianskirche became a sound space. Three banners mounted 44 m up on the church tower parapet announced it far and wide.

  • Advent calendar, Kassel City Hall 2012–2014

Advent calendar, Kassel City Hall 2012–2014

The idea of decorating Kassel’s city centre at Christmas with an oversized advent calendar was a huge success – first in the 2012 advent season.

Mounted on a purpose-built scaffold, the 300 m² calendar showed the decorated City Hall façade with 24 numbered windows on 8 strips. Every day a 140 × 140 cm door was opened, revealing the most beautiful winter photos of Kassel – in the second year the best pictures of the “Kassel 1100” anniversary – chosen from an HNA photo competition.

From 1 to 24 December a door was opened every day at 5 p.m., hosted by RADIO HNA with bands, choirs and brass music. A prize draw organised by Kassel Marketing brought life to the upper pedestrian zone. The banners are designed for reuse – the motifs behind the doors can be changed every year.

  • SMA advertising surface Kassel 2012

    SMA advertising surface Kassel 2012

After completing its new car park, SMA Solar Technology AG wanted an advertising surface on the south façade facing Dresdner Straße. Makom designed an 855 m² installation on a steel substructure, divided into segments that can be used individually or as one large surface – and organised the structural calculations, building permit and fire safety report.

Before documenta 13 opened in June 2012, the installation was mounted with the campaign “Energy (not) equal to art”. A QR code led visitors to the discussion on the SMA blog. After documenta the banners were removed and later replaced.
