Siemens giant phones, CeBIT Hannover

At CeBIT, Siemens advertised with nine 7.5 m high, photo-realistic 3D replicas of the M75 outdoor phone at a scale of 55:1. A team of 25 installed the 8-tonne giant phones at the Hannover fairground – on bases replicating rock and ice to symbolise their outdoor toughness.

The nine phones were produced in just six weeks in a joint Outform and Makom facility in Kassel – over 3,000 m² with plastics processing, metalwork, digital printing and joinery. An onion-like build-up of steel and plastic layers plus a hardcoat makes the surface tough; the rock bases were moulded from real rocks and finished by hand.
